Boost Fibromyalgia Relief with Simple At-Home Posture Exercises

1

The Summary

In a randomized controlled trial, 51 fibromyalgia patients taking duloxetine were split into two groups: one added a 4-week, home-based postural exercise program (three times weekly), while the other received medication alone. While both groups saw improvements in pain and psychological symptoms, the exercise group experienced significantly greater boosts in sleep quality, physical quality of life, and spinal mobility (trunk range of motion) compared to medication alone. No significant differences were found in pain intensity or anxiety between the groups.

Why this is interesting

While medication helps manage fibromyalgia, it rarely addresses physical stiffness and sleep disturbances fully. This study highlights a low-cost, accessible strategy: combining prescription treatment with basic postural exercises at home. By showing that just 12 sessions over four weeks can significantly improve spinal mobility and sleep quality, it empowers patients to take an active role in their recovery. It suggests that movement, not just medicine, is crucial for restoring physical well-being and overnight rest.
