In a 12-week randomized controlled trial, researchers compared the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) versus regular-intensity training (RIT) in 48 women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Participants were randomly assigned to either a supervised HIIT protocol or standard RIT. After the intervention, the HIIT group demonstrated significantly greater reductions in their free androgen index (FAI) and insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) compared to the RIT group.
